Fascinating compilation. And the jury is still out...

I was hoping to see the Tom Jones and Cerys Matthews version listed, so to see it topping your list is great! I loved the whole Reload album and this is a very cheeky and playful cover where the voices of Jones and Matthews really work well together. I don't think I've ever watched the videoclip until today so thanks for sharing that as well. It's a total testament of the late 90s: So bad it's good! Besides, how can I not love the Tom Jones when he's the Welsh Julio Iglesias? 😂 Between the two of them, they've probably slept with any woman over 18 during the 70s, 80s and 90s!

Sorry for the late reply to this comment Cristina but it made me laugh a lot so thank you 😂

Ahahah, well I’m glad you found that amusing. We have a running joke in Spain that goes along the lines of “Julio Iglesias is probably your father and you know it” 😂

Ahh I like this piece, Emma. The first time I heard this song was the Kurt and Blaine version of the Glee TV show. I loved it instantly. Very cute and flirty. Have you heard this version? I didn’t realize how problematic the lyrics can be until I listened to other versions. So I agree that the way we feel about a song depends on who sings it and how it’s sung.

Aww thanks Jam. I have heard that version, very cute and within their dynamic it doesn't seem threatening or coercive at all does it. Everything is about context.

Thank you so much for this, Emma - I haven’t laughed so hard in ages. I agree with your ranking 100%!

True, but I liked the last version the best myself. I interpret TJ as the devil in the video and the lady as you described her…madonna/whore figure.

Yes, I like the last version best too!! Love that reading.
